I had a good time at SAP TechED 2016 and I learned a lot of new stuff … the number of sessions and technology topics to choose from is simply astonishing and unfortunately it is impossible to attend all … therefore I had to make ‘choices’ and my personal area’s of interest were mainly focused on ABAP, S4/HANA, UI and HANA.

The overall quality of the sessions was great and a lot of new information had to be ‘digested’ :-)

I have listed my personal key points that I took home from this edition.

I am celebrating that I have successfully completed my 15th openSAP course over a period of 3 years …

The openSAP course “SAP’s UX Strategy in a Nutshell” by Sam Yen is a 3 hour course aimed at everyone to understand SAP’s UX strategy for the coming years.

SAP has decided to release its proprietary client-side HTML5 rendering library ‘UI5’ as open source under the name ‘openUI5’. The JavaScript framework has been around for some time and is being used by SAP to create web based front-ends for a number of its new applications (like the ‘Fiori’ applications).

The openSAP course ‘Introduction to Mobile Solution Development for the Enterprise’ just ended this week after 6 weeks of exploring SAP’s vision on the ‘mobile enablement of the enterprise’. Just like the SAP HANA course, the quality of delivered learning content (videos and presentations) was outstanding.

openSAP started with a new online course ‘Introduction to Mobile Solution Development for the Enterprise’ which will discuss development of mobile enterprise applications within the SAP eco system. I am following this course to get a better insight on the technologies and platforms SAP is going to use the next coming years for its mobile development.

I am pleased to announce that I completed the 6 week online openSAP course ‘Introduction to software development on SAP HANA’ and graduated with a ‘Record Of Achievement’ of 99.9%.

I have been working on a SAPUI5 ‘proof of concept’ application which will display dashboards for the messaging statistics of SAP PI messages. The message statistics are grouped into ‘cockpit sets’ — ‘General’ ones are available for all users and ‘Personal’ ones can be maintained by the users themselves.

SAP HANA XS provides a complete development environment for building so-called ’native’ applications. The term ’native’ is chosen as these kind of applications will run directly on top of the SAP HANA XS engine as opposed to applications running on eg. an ABAP stack that would interact with SAP HANA. The benefits for such applications are enormous …

We are on track with the openSAP HANA XS Course … The course offers excellent, high-quality e-learning sources including video material, PDF powerpoint slides and lectures transcripts.

We are enlisted and following the online openSAP course ‘Introduction to Software Development on SAP HANA’. This 6 week online course will introduce developers into the wonderful world of SAP’s in-memory database SAP HANA and the built-in application server SAP HANA XS (Extended Services).

2013 is already ongoing for a while … time to list some interests & objectives for the coming year … SAP is moving ahead fast and times are changing. So what’s on our list?
